Harmers of London ’s latest sale, the twentieth in their series of "Lots and Collections" auctions was their largest and most successful to date. Over 400 lots, an enormous quantity of boxes and albums went under the hammer after a week of busy pre-sale viewing by an unprecedented number of interested prospective buyers. With lots estimated at between £15 and £22,000 there was something to suit every pocket and in this sale Harmer’s have introduced an interesting feature offering some lots without reserves, which certainly proved exciting!
Lot 2: A valuable Collection of used George V and George VI issues estimated at £6,000 sold for £8,437.
One country collections are always popular with British Commonwealth selling very well.
Lot 196: A Falkland Islands accumulation in stockbook and loose, estimated £600 realised £1,652.
The real excitement was found in the Great Britain section, the first lot :
Lot 220: A selection of sixty-three 1840 1d. blacks in mixed condition Estimated £2,500 realised £3,186.
Lot 224: A Valuable Collection in a " Windsor" album. Estimated £13,500. Realised £14,625.
Lot 225: A Collection in a red album. Estimated £7,500 realised £11,250.
Lot 289: An accumulation of Jersey issues Estimated £2,250. Realised £2,478.
Lot 297: India Accumulation in twelve albums or stockbooks. Estimated £4,500. Realised £7,875.
Lot 345: Malaya and States Collection in two red albums and loose. Estimated £3,000 realised £7,312.
The total for the sale was a very pleasing £318,643.
